A trip to Egypt? ... Let's be honest, when it comes to the traveler to Egypt immediately associates the image of the Sphinx and the pyramids. If a diver, he will think Red Sea. Egypt is an easy destination for a European as close and inexpensive, but until last year I did, however, were never walked, being naturally drawn to more distant destinations. But last February, after superb diving in the Red Sea to this report with the agency Blue Lagoon (dive travel specialist), I was flying the red mountains and part of the Nile in returning to France, and I opening his eyes to try to see the top of the famous pyramids ...

Egypt is a cultural Grail though some balked at the thought "old stones". Between you and me, and despite a penchant for history, I'd always promised one day to contemplate ancient Egypt but when I would discover more than that, let's face it: for my old days ...
They are still far!
And after years of running the world for extra-ordinary trips, after walking the floor of countries as exotic as Borneo and Greenland (does not necessarily exotic palm trees), I wanted to take a break, and why not to the "classic". For this new year I dreamed of a trip less than four hours without jet lag, but not with the sun in temperatures grueling. I wanted a bit of culture as in the history books. With these criteria I selected four days in Marrakech or seven days in Egypt. Between scents of spices and history, I chose Egypt!
Giza, Luxor, the Sphinx, Karnak, Abu Simbel ... I want to see everything!
Experience the excitement of the pyramids, the Egyptians smile again, breathe the scent of Archaeology major feature films as Indiana Jones but with the sophistication of the queens of Egypt. Years ago I read the biography of the most famous of them, Cleopatra, though few traces of its history has finally been found and that many of his stories have been fictionalized or embellished. I have an instinctive admiration for the modern woman who defied the biggest empires in the name of power, patriotism and love. This woman delivered by the river feeding a nation that is talked about for millennia the Nile.
So here I am cruising on the Nile. To me the beautiful lights in the wee hours of the day, the sails of the felucca gliding between banks commercial, agricultural, weather-beaten fishermen profiles and clear-eyed girls in veils. On the left you will find the map of my journey. And if you want to follow me from day to day and make the same journey as me, here is the Nile cruise with Marmara .
I will work, certainly. I can not do otherwise! Stay idly while so many emotions will shape my sensibility? Forget framing and poetry to flirting with the languor of a river cruise on a mythic ... Impossible! I want to see, feel, hear, touch, taste. And tell you then.
Magic of the Internet and programming articles, the time you read me I'm already on the Nile since Sunday. I already took a considerable number of photos (I'm sure!) And I have blackened the pages of my notebook to power everything you describe when I return next Sunday. Until then, and I hope you will forgive me, I can not log on A World Elsewhere. Besides, I like the idea of being able to concentrate for a few days only on my passions, photography and writing, without depending on a connection.
Even though I know I probably feel frustrated in less than three days! ...
So since we'll still stop in a few places and we will be civilized in Cairo soon, bet that I'll still greet you here before the end of the week ... ![]()

I already travel on the Nile and it remains one of my best memories, I posted a note on it here:

Denis> here I am back ... with snow on the runway at Roissy and Paris on my terrace! In Egypt ... it was 21 ° in the afternoon (and cold at sunset), mild heat shock return.
I return with many pictures under the arm (and on the hard drive), some wonderful memories in their eyes, serious notions of Egyptian culture through a revised guide local ultra-competent and some accumulated fatigue. I'll tell you all this as quickly as possible, I often thought my readers to appreciate the visits there ...
Henry> I did well "worked" since I can not discover a new destination without wanting to talk (and show)! I have miles of notes in my notebook travel, and a few GB of photos. While photographing the remains of ancient Egypt is not so easy ...
Isabelle> I wrote (head) some texts to you at all, with the desire to share with you certain emotions, certain moods. A sunset on the Nile is an experience to live at least once. Not to mention the discovery of Abu Simbel: just IMPOSING! ...
Chantale> in February it will be warmer than in January ... It is a journey that leaves an imprint, unquestionably. I'll try to write it all very quickly, and before you left, I promise!
Josiane> welcome to A World Elsewhere, expect to read my articles on this Egypt that I do not know ...
